The main theological difference between Islam and Christianity is the divinity of Jesus. Islam rejects the divinity of Jesus, but accepts him as a Prophet of God with a unique role in Islamic theology. Christianity attributed divinity to Jesus as part of a triune God. Who is right? Are these two opposing theologies compatible? How can Muslims and Christians find common ground?

This debate was held at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church in London, between Dr. Chris Green and Adnan Rashid.

Dr. Chris Green is the vice-principle of Oak Hill Theological College in North London. It is an evangelical Anglican college. Chris has published commentaries on 2 Peter and Jude, 2 Timothy, and Acts, and edited a book on preaching. He contributed to and edited Fanning the Flame and Guarding the Gospel, the books which accompanied NEAC4 (both Zondervan), and he edits the Oak Hill School of Theology volumes.

Adnan Rashid is a historian with a speciality in the history of Islamic civilisation, comparative religion and Hadith sciences. He also takes a keen interest in lslamic numismatics, ancient manuscripts and antiques. He has debated many high profile figures in the field of politics, history, theology and Christianity.

He has defended his views successfully in many prestigious universities including University of Warsaw (Poland) and the American University of Beirut (Lebanon). Adnan has represented Islam and Muslims internationally appearing on a number of radio and TV platforms.

The video of this debate will be available on this page soon.

Islam or Humanism: Which One Makes More Sense?

With an increase of people seeking to live ethical and fulfilling lives on the basis of humanism, this timely discussion has been arranged to explore the rational and moral foundations of Islam and this increasingly popular philosophy.

Are humanists the only ones who seek to use reason to form conclusion about life? What moral and ethical frameworks provide better values for humanity? Can we live better lives without religion? Does God exist? Do we have to follow His commands?

This debate was held at University College London between Professor Richard Norman who is Emeritus Professor of Moral Philosophy and Hamza Andreas Tzortzis who is head of research and lecturer for iERA.

The video for this debate will be available on this page soon.

The “God: Delusion or Truth?” debate was held at the University College London in October 2009 between Rick Lewis and Hamza Andreas Tzortzis.

About the Speakers

Rick Lewis is the founder and editor of Philosophy Now, and thereby one of the main initiators of the popular philosophy movement in the English speaking world. He launched the magazine in 1991, the first ever philosophy magazine worldwide. This new initiative facilitated a wave of popular philosophy activities in Great Britain, the United States, and elsewhere, which has since strengthened, and to the present owes much of its impetus to Lewis’ work.

Hamza Andreas Tzortzis is an international public speaker on Islam, a writer, lecturer and intellectual activist. He is particularly interested in Islam, politics, western and Islamic philosophy.
